A Unity of Purpose
It is imperative that we all know and understand why we are here and what we are doing. If all role players know where they fit into the plan, they will know what is expected of them and they will be able to do their job secure in the knowledge that the others in the organization are doing theirs.
A Spirit of Participation
Too many children go through this school without ever becoming involved in the school. It is our intention to revive the Inter House system to increase participation of children in all manner of sporting, academic and cultural events which will develop into an increased spirit amongst the learners. We need to work hard and play hard.
A Revival of Respect
This is the time of relational respect. Teachers and pupils have to earn the respect of each other. We intend to do this by building relationships. By encouraging interaction between teachers and pupils on the sports fields and in cultural groups and societies -this is where relationships are built and how respect is earned.
A Sense of Hope
The SMT has set HOPE as the theme for this year. Hope – not in the sense of a wishful thinking, not simply in the sense of a positive attitude, of being optimistic without reason but rather in the sense of confident expectation based on a solid foundation.
We have also taken the 4 letters of H O P E and created a theme for each term. Term 1 – Honour – respect Term 2 – Optimism – confident expectation Term 3 – Perseverance – pressing ahead in the face of adversity Term 4 – Excellence – to move beyond, to rise above
This is the vision for Bergvliet High. Why 2013 you may ask? Well, the current grade 8’s will be matriculating in 2013 and by then, if we have carried out our plan effectively, I confidently expect that we will have a school built on a solid foundation. A school that will be able to deliver on the world class promise in our mission statement. We have the makings of a plan to achieve this vision. We need the input of all role players to bolster and fine tune the plan. It is our intention equip every person at BHS in order that they may develop these attitudes and values. All this has to happen whilst carrying out our core business – teaching and learning. It won’t happen immediately and there will be many obstacles to face but I have confidence in my management team, I have faith in my middle management, I trust my teachers and I believe in the goodness of our children.
I HOPE (confidently expect) that you will join us on this journey because without you we will be missing something special.
