A very lucky 18 year old from Lakeside and Matric pupil from Bergvliet High School , Sarah Manig was ecstatic to find out that she had won a trip to Kentucky United States to attend the Altech FEI World Equestrian Games 2010 courtesy of Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health and Equitop on 16 August 2010.

She told Equitop Sales person for SA , Mrs Melanie Leppan that after entering the competition she had been asking her mother every day at least twice a day, since 31 July 2010, when the draw was initially to be drawn, if it had been drawn and that she was sure she would be travelling to Kentucky.

She was very disappointed initially to hear that the 2 winners had been drawn on 16 August 2010 at 9h30 and she was not among the names drawn. However, after a lucky turn of events, one of the competitors advised Melanie they would not be taking their prize. The Finance Department then drew another name at 12h00 and it was Sarah Manig and the already drawn Kathi Kotzen who would be travelling together to Kentucky for this once in a lifetime opportunity. (Both winners are from the Western Province with a huge interest in competitive horse riding). Kathi Kotzen, will be travelling with Sarah and we know they will have a super time.

This opportunity and trip is extremely special for Sarah who is a competitive horse rider from the Western Province herself and her dream has always been to watch top international equestrian stars perform at top levels in various disciplines like Show Jumping, Dressage, Driving and Eventing. Sarah would ideally like to one day complete at this level. When asked who her local role models are, Sarah did not hesitate to say that Anna Buchanan and her exquisite mare Balmoral. A recent musical freestyle championship show on 15 August 2010, revealed to the Western Province that South Africa has our own gems, with riders such as Elizabeth van Rensburg and Anna Buchanan. Anna performed at the highest level of dressage at the show, and left people in awe of this horse and rider team. This has inspired Sarah to continue to improve her dressage and it is evident to her that hard work does pay.
