Bergvliet High Sailors sail to success Print E-mail

Interschools_2010_169.jpg

Congratulations to the Bergvliet High School team of young sailors on winning the 2010 Interschools Regatta!

They fought a neck and neck battle through 7 races and finally triumphed over a very strong Bishops team that have had a stranglehold on the trophy for many years. Yacht racing is a hard sport both physically and mentally and they endured a constant battle right to the end. Kevin Foreman, Jeremy Foreman and Tiran Long deserve all the praise. Under 15 A Rugby team rules Print E-mail

DSCN2030

This year the U/15 A rugby side has had another spectacular season with no games lost. They only played 9 games because of matches being cancelled, but when they played they gave of their best.

Their new coaches, SP Blakely and Sean van Duiker, taught the boys in a fun way and had a challenging task trying to off load all their knowledge of the game.

The biggest wins of the year were against Pinelands High where the score was 52-0 and Collegains where it was 42 –5. The closest games this season have been against Reddam and Westerford, where the points’ difference has been 12 in both cases.

The captain, Andrew Edwards, and Edwill Godfrey were the top try scorers scoring 13 and 7 respectively. The fly half and kicker, Leighton van Wyk converted most of the tries.

A few talented players went to Western Province trials and Andrew Edwards made it to the final round. Jason de Stadler made it to the second last trial.

Our most improved players this season were: Thomas Warne, Phelo Mfini, Leighton van Wyk, Robby Watkins and Keegan Steenkamp.

I know that the school and the players are hoping that the team carries on with its winning streak next season to become the first team in the history of BHS to win the Grand Slam right through the junior stages.

Andrew Edwards (Captain Under 15 A)
