New trophy awarded in honour of the late Mark Jones Print E-mail

MARK JONES – 01 November 1982 to 16 February 2008

Mark attended Bergvliet High School from July 1996 and matriculated in 2000.
He represented the school in swimming and was Swimming Captain in his matric year.

Although not a major academic, Mark achieved a university pass and continued to study Electrical Engineering at Cape Technicon, and graduated in 2003. He was then employed by Omnipless – a satellite communication systems company in Westlake, and was involved in the production of their antenna systems.

Mark always had an aptitude and a love for computers and their applications, but it was more of a hobby and a passion than an academic direction. This continued after his tertiary education, and he was always on the cutting edge with new technology and skills.

Very sadly Mark passed away on Saturday 16th Feb 2008 following a motorbike accident.

His memorial service in the BHS hall was attended by close to 700 family and friends – a tribute to an amazing person who had touched so many lives in his 25 short years.

He was loved by many for his genuine character, wit and charm and a “smile that came from the heart”. He was also respected by many for his attitude to life and words such as “an inspiration to all who knew him” and “legendary” were echoed in many of the tributes paid to him.

Mark would be very proud to have a Trophy presented in his name as an acknowledgement of effort and talent in Computer Applications Technology, as this was an interest very close to his heart.
