REVISION COURSES

Revise and refresh – a new look at Gatsby’s world and some of the ideas and dreams driving it. Aspects of the novel will be explored and explained. An excellent introduction and a platform for further study.

If what you’ve learnt in Grade 11 seems to have escaped you, and you need a little help remembering, then you should join this course! This is your last chance to revise the following aspects of the Grade 11 syllabus:

• Algebra – including quadratic equations, quadratic inequalities, simultaneous equations, exponents, surds and margin of error
• Statistics – all grade 11 work, including ungrouped, grouped data, scatter plots, standard deviation and misuse of statistics
• Functions – including straight line, parabola, hyperbola and exponential graphs
• Trigonometry – all grade 11 trigonometry, including graphs
• Financial Maths and Number patterns
• Co-ordinate geometry and transformations

Be pro-active and start preparing for your mid-year exams now! In this course, you will revise the following sections of the Grade 11 syllabus:

• Organic Chemistry and Reaction Types
• Capacitance
• Electricity
• Electrostatics
• Oxidation and Reduction
• Chemical Bonding, Exo- and Endothermic Reactions

GENERAL INTEREST COURSES

Choosing a career is not for the fainthearted. Very few people can afford the financial luxury of chopping and changing careers until they find their ideal field. Most of us need to make a decision and stick with it! But how does one choose a career and what if you make a mistake? How do you go about translating the things you’re passionate about into a career? Where do you find out what career possibilities there are out there? How viable will the career you choose today be by the time you’re 50? Join this course and explore your future possibilities – whether you’re in Grade 11 or 12, a graduate, or someone wanting to change career direction – this course could define your future!

This relaxed, fun-filled course is aimed at absolute beginners as well as those who have taught themselves the basics and would like to learn more. You will be shown how to tune your guitar and the finger positions for basic chords, as well as simple folk guitar picking & strumming techniques. Since the course is in the form of a practical workshop, you will need to bring your guitar along to every session.

In this course, users will be taught about the Microsoft.NET framework and its easiest language addition yet – Visual Basic. The course will cover the .NET framework and its inner workings, as well as the Microsoft Visual Studio Express IDE (a free integrated development environment for hobbyists and amateur coders) and of course – the basics of Visual Basic.

Users will be taught basic programming fundamentals like syntax, variables, datatypes, if…else statements, loops and error checking and will then move onto implementing them in basic Visual Basic console programs. The course will end with a practical, showing users how to make a simple Visual Basic.Net programme that completes maths equations for them. Course participants will be given a free copy of Visual Studio Professional 2008 to install onto their computers at home.

DRIVER EDUCATION

Want to pass your learner’s licence first time around?  Join this class and ensure success!  If possible, bring your learner’s licence book along to the course – all other materials will be supplied.

Many thanks to Chris Cresswell of Tokai Multi-Franchise, for the kind donation of our Driver Education car, which can be viewed here.  One hour driving lessons will take place during the times indicated below.  These lessons are only available to Bergvliet High School learners. 

All booking must be made in person at the Continuing Education office and are on a first-come, first-served basis.  A copy of your valid learner’s licence must accompany your registration form. Well done to all those of you who have taken the Driving test in our car and have passed - we have a 100% first time around pass rate so far!
